• Recertification

The Recertification Standard* is the set of guidelines for CFE members who have let their membership expire. The standard currently only applies to expired members; it doesn't apply to any members who are inactive, retired or otherwise.

A Certified Fraud Examiner whose membership has been expired for three consecutive years or less:
May be reinstated as a Certified Fraud Examiner in good standing by applying for reinstatement to the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners by:

    1. Applying for and paying any required recertification or application fees as set by the ACFE.
    2. Certifying that he or she has completed 20 hours of documented CPE within the 12 months preceding the date of application for reinstatement. At least 10 hours of CPE must relate directly to the detection and deterrence of fraud and 2 hours must relate directly to ethics.

A Certified Fraud Examiner whose membership has been expired for more than three, but not more than five, consecutive years:
May pass the CFE Exam and otherwise satisfy all of the educational, experience and testing qualifications necessary for certification; or may be reinstated as a Certified Fraud Examiner in good standing by applying for reinstatement to the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners by:

    1. Applying for and paying any required recertification or application fees as set by the ACFE.
    2. Certifying that he or she has completed 40 hours of documented CPE within the two years preceding the date of application for reinstatement. At least 20 hours of CPE must relate directly to the detection and deterrence of fraud and 4 hours must relate directly to ethics. (Documentation of CPE earned must be submitted with the Recertification Application.)

A Certified Fraud Examiner whose membership has been expired for more than five consecutive years:
May only be reinstated as a Certified Fraud Examiner by passing the CFE Exam and otherwise satisfying all of the educational, experience and testing requirements necessary for certification under the ACFE's established certification rules. The process for members expired for more than five consecutive years is:
